POSITIVE PURPOSE:

Performing general preventative maintenance work to ensure hotel maintenance quality standards are achieved and maintained.

DUTIES:

  • Assists with preventative maintenance and complete report work orders such as replacing ceiling tiles, light bulbs, patching vinyl, etc., to maintain the hotel and keep the product quality to standard.
  • Performs preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis (e.g. "room check lists").
  • Assists in checking electrical systems such as air conditioning controls, television sets, lighting systems, and makes minor repairs and/or replacement.
  • Assists in checking and makes minor repairs on general plumbing systems and fixtures such as pipelines, toilets and sinks, kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Maintains the building exterior and "curb appeal" (e.g., painting).
  • Refurbishes furniture and fixtures within guest rooms such as cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, windows and counters. Paints and finishes furniture and fixtures if needed.
  • Responds in a courteous manner to all guest questions, complaints, and or requests to ensure strong guest satisfaction.
  • Due to the nature of the business the individual may be required to do other duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor/Chief Engineer or management.

Customer satisfaction:

As measured by the guest reports, particularly complaints about slow service or repeated mechanical failures in the room.

Work Habits:

As measured by meeting hotel standards for work procedures, dress, grooming, punctuality, and attendance.

Personnel Development:

As measured by learning new skills or improving existing ones; ability to solve routine problems that occur on the job; asking for help when not sure how to do something.

Safety & Security:

As measured by compliance and adherence to the hotel security policies and procedures, particularly regarding key controls, lifting heavy objects, using chemicals, and reporting safety hazards, and health department.

Maintenance:

As measured by proper operation of hotel systems and equipment in assigned area of responsibility; frequency ofre-calls on repair work; and cleanliness or work areas and tools.

Since a majority of the job is preventive maintenance, the individual spends most of the job ensuring equipment is properly functioning. (Climbing, reading, standing, walking and routinely lifting up to 60 lbs.) Must be able to receive instructions and communicate progress of work assignments.

Involvement in repairs as an assistant to the more experienced Maintenance Manager is a required function. Replacement of grout, lights, tiles, and upkeep of room construction, furniture, or public areas is required.

OTHER:

  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Sonesta Maho
  • Beach Resort & Casino from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.
  • Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
  • Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Education:

High School graduate or equivalent. Basic reading, writing and math skills.

Experience:

Six (6) months maintenance experience in Hotel Industry

Certificates:

Diploma/Certificate in Building Maintenance Technology or related field.

Grooming:

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available).
