POSITION SUMMARY:
To construct, maintain and dismantle structures, furniture, woodwork and other related items such as, doors, folding walls, windows, ceilings, tile, sheetrock and hardware throughout the facility to ensure an attractive and well-maintained facility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Hiring Requirements:
- Previous experience of at least five (5) years in carpentry, woodworking or cabinet making and blueprint reading
- MTS/LTS certificates preferred
- Good product knowledge of lumber (.i.e. grade and types), hardware and other related supplies
- Knowledge of local building codes
- Skills in use of power and hand tools such as planner, table saw, drill press, chisels, rasps etc
- Basic English language communication skills in order to read blueprints and mechanical drawings, communicate with co-workers and fully comprehend job assignments
- Basic trade mathematical skills in order to calculate quantities of materials
- Ability to grasp, lift or carry items weighing up to 60lbs occasionally above head
- Ability to reach above head and support items such as wood, ceiling, tiles etc.
- Ability to push and pull objects or materials weighing up to 100lbs with or without wheeled assistance
- Ability to climbs ladders, occasionally working at heights above 30 feet
- Ability to perform tasks consistently while bending, stooping, kneeling or standing while supporting additional weight of up to 60 lbs
- Experience in using shop equipment such as: table saw, drill press, band saw, electric planner and router are required
Language Requirements:
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests and staff.
- Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To support the Company’s mission to meet and exceed the set targets and to perform duties in accordance with the established Service, Safety, ISM/ISO standards, USPH & HACCP guidelines, and Environmental regulations.
- Maintain and repair doors, furniture, hardware, windows, hang artwork and headboards, etc.
- Climb on ladders, stoop, push or pull heavy furniture, and grasp hand tools. Visually inspect, diagnose problems, take measurements and make necessary adjustments to items such as door hardware to ensure safe, smooth operation of guestrooms, public space and back of the house Facilities. This will involve the extension of arms to replace ceiling tiles, lifting and positioning of sheetrock, replacing chair rails and corner moldings, kneeling to repair wood floors and formica work.
- Perform shop work to repair or build furniture. Identify types and grades of wood, measure and be familiar with hardware materials available to the carpentry trade. With the materials and tools available, the individual must be able to build cabinets, shelving units and fabricate furniture parts for repairs. The individual will be required to lift materials up to 80 lbs, and have finger dexterity to manipulate switches, operate fine hand tools and adjust and maintain equipment.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.
- Receive lumber deliveries and clean workshop.
- Construct various signs and props and hang items such as signs and banners.
- Due to the nature of the business, the carpenter/projects technician may be required to do other duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor such as assisting other trades or erecting partitions and walls.
OTHER:
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment
