POSITION PURPOSE:
Greets guests and provides prompt and courteous service, responding to guest needs to ensure guest satisfaction and promote repeat visits. You will greet guests as they enter and show them to their table or waiting area. You will also engage with guests to ensure their meal is as good as it should be. To do well in this role you should be comfortable standing for long periods and managing a very busy shift.
Hostess Duties & Responsibilities:
• Greeting guests as they enter and putting them on a waiting list as necessary.
• Providing guests with menus and answering any initial questions.
• Seating guests at tables or in waiting areas.
• Assigning guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of customers.
• Engaging with guests to ensure they're happy with food and service.
• Responding to complaints and helping to resolve them.
• Answering phone calls, taking reservations and answering questions.
• A knowledge of the menu.
• Helping out with other positions in the restaurant as needed.
• Providing great customer service.
• Arrive punctually for shift, ensuring personal appearance and uniform comply with company standards.
• Greet guests immediately with a friendly and sincere welcome. Use a positive and clear speaking voice.
• Offer welcome drink/ Champagne
• Ensure Beverage is served at the correct temperature and that the champagne flutes are clean and there are no chips or cracks.
• Ensure coffee station is properly set up and available to the guest and that the serving receptacles are clean and not chipped or cracked and paper napkins are available.
• Ensure that all guests entering the restaurant are wearing wrist band,
• Listen to and understand requests, respond with appropriate action and provide accurate information such as direction, restaurant hours and local attractions, property information, guest information pertaining to all-inclusive service.
• Assist server in communication information when necessary
• Display at all times a friendly, courteous and professional manner in dealing with guests, superiors and colleagues.
• Handle emergency procedures in a professional manner following company policies and procedures.
• Attend departmental and hotel meetings as scheduled.
• Complete any reasonable task requested by those in authority.
• Any other duties as assigned by the F&B Service Supervisor/Manager.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
• Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
• Ability to stand and move throughout the restaurant and continuously perform essential job functions.
• Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively
• Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
• Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
OTHER:
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.
Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
